Ordering Procedure

Our original On-line Catalogue and Secure Ordering procedure was launched on 17th October 2002.
This new version has been launched on 24th January 2007. We hope you find it useful. Please let us know if there are any problems with the way it functions.

We recommend that you read these notes about our Ordering Procedure before placing your order.

We send full size plants in 2, 2.5 or 3 litre pots to all addresses in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isles of Man and Scilly.
The current charge is £9.50 per parcel (up to 4 plants) for most addresses in mainland England and Lowland Scotland. Higher charges apply for other regions, including Central London, and are shown on the order form when selecting the delivery zone.

For Export to Europe, including the Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands, we offer two alternative methods.
The lowest cost is for bare-root plants, sent by Express Airmail in padded envelopes.
The alternative is our EU Gold Service for which we do not remove the compost. See our
Export Page for more details.

For Export beyond Europe the plants are bare-rooted and washed, inspected and given a Phytosanitary Certificate when required. For some countries there are further requirements, please enquire if more details are required.
For more details and specific country requirements please see our Export Page. - Country Table

We hope to increase our on-line service to include our Clematis Collections, books and sundries in due course.

ABOUT US
We are a small 'family run' nursery specialising in Clematis and producing quality plants for you.
Many commonly asked questions regarding the cultivation of clematis are answered in our Clematis Care Guide, with additional information available in a book Ruth has written, which can be ordered from the nursery.
We are also happy to give advice by telephone or e-mail for clematis purchased from us.

We are a retail nursery only and cannot supply wholesale orders.
For VAT purposes we are registered as 'Flat Rate Farmers'.
Data is handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1984.
We do NOT pass on customer's details to other organisations.

ABOUT OUR CLEMATIS
Our clematis are grown in rigid 2, 2.5 or 3 litre pots which enables us to produce strong plants with a good root system. They are two to three years old when sold - we do not sell struck cuttings or immature plants. We believe our method of production should be maintained rather than 'cutting corners' to reduce delivery costs. Our customers so far, have agreed with our principles of selling only mature, quality plants.
We dispatch our plants year-round, subject to availability.

USER GUIDE FOR ON-LINE CATALOGUE
The details of Colour, Flowering Months, Heights, etc., given in this catalogue are purely a guide. These can vary greatly depending on the position and soil they are planted in, the climate and weather conditions and feeding, so please take all these into consideration.

We will shortly be adding more photographs and those shown on this website are also only a guide. Photographs cannot be totally accurate and personal computer screen settings may vary.

We have indicated those clematis cultivars which have been given an Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by the Royal Horticultural Society, and also those that have excelled in the British Clematis Society's trial ground and have been given a Certificate of Merit.

FLOWERING MONTHS - If for instance the flowering months given are 5 - 6 & 9, this refers to May, June and September, i.e. the 5th, 6th and 9th months.(in UK)

ASPECTS - For each cultivar we indicate their prefered aspect, whether it be sunny, shady or sheltered - others which dislike being exposed to the harshest winds and those happy to cope anywhere. The majority of clematis will flower better in a sunny, or partially shaded aspect. The scented cultivars have a better perfume if grown in a sunny situation.

PRUNING - This is listed as Tidy, Light or Hard. For some cultivars we also state that pruning is 'Optional' as these can be pruned lightly or hard. In these cases, flowering times, heights, etc. for each alternative are shown. For further details on pruning please refer to our Clematis Care Guide in our main website. A Clematis Care Guide will be enclosed with your plants.

NOMENCLATURE - To keep 'computer friendly' with differences in programs, etc. we have not tried to add the complication of inverted commas for cultivar names, accents for languages other than English, or any other symbols or formatting. These are detailed in our printed catalogue.

Clematis cultivars are listed in alphabetical order so for example to find 'Dorothy Tolver', click on the letter D (i.e. the first letter of the full name). Another example would be 'Mrs. N. Thompson' which is listed under M.

We have gathered together into groups, some cultivars which have very similar flowering times, height and pruning requirements, these also need similar growing conditions. For example the atragenes, montanas, texensis, viticellas and Evergreen cultivars.

For clematis cultivars which come under a 'group' heading such as montana or viticella, we have detailed these under both the group and cultivar name. For example montana 'Broughton Star' is listed on the Montana Group page as well as the B page and can be ordered from either location.
