Clematis alternata has delightful little red, nodding bell-shaped flowers dangle from the leaf axils. Its leaves are produced singly and alternately along the vine and it requires a sheltered position and free draining soil.
It is rare for a clematis to have a summer flowering period and not to need hard pruning. So summer flowering and minimal pruning.
